GKI Grazing History

In 1866, the first commercial lease on GKI was granted to Mr Robert Ross who established a sheep station with up to 4,000 sheep grazing over the entire Island.

This grazing lease has continued to be transferred and held privately by graziers who also introduced goats to the Island. Feral goats continue to graze on the Island today.

Due to the grazing activities of the past there has been significant vegetation disturbance over the Island.

The GKI Revitalisation Plan will involve the implementation of a Vegetation Management Plan to rectify the previous disturbances which occurred on the Island.
