The GKI Revitalisation Plan has been designed by one of the world’s leading design firms for the hospitality, leisure and entertainment industries, WATG. WATG has a legacy of environmentally sensitive planning, architecture and design. A hallmark of the WATG is its sensitivity to the influences of the local culture, the natural resources, the people and the spirit of the location.
WATG’s design of the GKI Revitalisation Plan will retain the regional community improvements committed to previously and provide:
- A range of low rise, eco-tourism accommodation options
- An extended airstrip
- Restoration of Leeke’s Homestead
- Establishment of Environmental buffer zones and protection areas
- Golf course located on the site of the original sheep farm
- New marina comprising a ferry terminal, yacht club, retail village and Research Centre
- Preservation of Indigenous sites on GKI
- Provision of a community sports oval
- Re-opening of the Middle Island Underwater Observatory
