What is AN eis?
ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT
The EIS studies will identify the environmental, social, economic and cultural heritage values of the Island and surrounding marine waters as well as how potential impacts will be prevented or managed.
The EIS process will require the involvement of a range of local, state and federal government departments. It will also require comprehensive field surveys to be prepared and supported by literature reviews, modelling and consultation with the community.
An EIS (which has to be conducted by qualified specialists) typically takes from 6 months to 12 months to complete. The EIS specialists will work with conservation, business, local community groups and traditional owner groups to ensure the appropriate environment conservation and protection measures.
Prior to the commencement of an EIS, the State & Federal governments will prepare a detailed Terms of Reference outlining which studies will be required to be undertaken.
